Training towards Organic Certification

  • OFA provides training to internal inspectors, Field Officers, small holder farmers and wild plant collectors on certification standards such as: Organic Certification EU; US National Organic Program (NOP) and Mabagrown.
  • The organization partners with Fair Trade Support Network to train farmers and wild plant collectors on Fair Trade and Fair Wild certification standards.
  •  OFA facilitates linkages between smallholder farmers, wild plant collectors and buyers and prepares farmers for organic labels certification and integration into the export market.
  • The importance of certification is to differentiate every product and satisfy different markets.

Certification Standards

EU/NOP

This certificate is renewed annually. It stipulates the rules and regulations for the production, handling, and labeling of all European Union and USDA organic products, aiding also in enforcement through audits.It paves the way to export to the EU and US.

Global Artisan C-sink

Standard for Carbon Sink Certification for artisan biochar production. The Global Artisan C-sink certification defines how to certify biochar made in an artisanal way, with endorsed low-tech pyrolysis. The guidelines regulate the control procedures for sourcing biochar feedstock, training and assessments for Artisan Biochar Producers, monitoring of biochar production, tracking of its application, use of smartphone-based monitoring, and C-sink registration.

FairTrade

Fair Trade has one certificate for the period October 2020 – October 2024. Audits are done annually. Trainings are being done as the number of farmers change over the years and the premiums also change. OFA training has been relevant as the certificate can be revoked if standards are not met in the 4-year certification period
